Allen Therapies, Inc. has been in Madisonville since 2000. We were drawn to the area by it's good school district, a history of good medical care, and the need for local a physical therapy clinic.

We have steadily grown with the community offering therapy in the home setting and in our office, within the nursing homes and now we provide physical therapy in the school district. Our focus has always been on the community. We participate in many local activities and are always offering our support to all aspects of a small town lifestyle. We have always supported the Cattleman's Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the area little league, the new fine arts council and the all aspects of the school.

Allen Therapies, Inc. prides ourselves in offering the best therapy in the area. We do go to peoples' home, but our clinic has some of the newest technology and the most tried and trusted equipment as well. We are now offering aquatic therapy in conjunction with the local Best Western Executive Inns. Additional, we understand that a good health lifestyle is essential to prevent and minimize future problems.

Here is a quick tour of our Madisonville facility.

The cardiovascular area has numerous pieces of equipment that are primarily designed for endurance type of work.

  1. The treadmill is a good traditional piece of CV equipment that utilizes speed and incline as the two major determinates for control. The treadmill can be used by "runners" and "walkers" alike with good results. Be careful if you have issues with arthritis, knee, hip, ankle, or low back pain as sometimes the impact of this activity can be irritating. Also, those with asymmetrical gait patterns may not find the treadmill to their liking.
  2. The Stair Stepper is not for the light of heart. It is a more intensive workout with good results seen for the hips and thighs as well as getting a good CV workout.
  3. The Elliptical is a newer piece of equipment. It utilizes the arms and legs and thus gets a quicker CV response with minimal to no impact. It is easily adjustable and quick to learn. It's tougher than it looks.
  4. The NordicTrack is another great piece of CV equipment with the inclusion of arms and legs possible, but this piece of equipment does have a learning curve. It makes for a great workout, but most people have to practice to get the hang of it.
  5. The NuStep is used extensively in therapy, but again is a nice way to get a CV workout with the inclusion of arms and legs into a workout. It has a comfortable seat, is easy to get off and on, and is easy to keep your feet on the pedals.
  6. The bicycles (recumbent and standard) are again good classical forms of CV equipment. Varying the speed is the primary way to address intensity. An excellent way to address thigh and calf regions. Also the triceps and shoulders get a good workout with the seated aerodyne type.

The next area is our balance and plyometric area. This is used extensively in therapy but is a great place for abdominal work, balance, and speed training. This is a specialized area with focus on specific movements that are functional / complex in nature.

Across the way, you will see the Total Gym. Just as Chuck demonstrates on TV, it really can do just about everything.

Madisonville

The weights area specifically designed to strengthen "problem areas." We have several truck machines (but like the ball exercises better), a seated hamstring machine, a pulley system which we again sue to focus on specific body parts (arms, shoulders, hips, ankles, knees, etc…) And the multi-hip machine (4 exercises in one machine) and the squat machine (it is heavy). As with any location find out how to use the machines before you jump on…better safe than sorry.
